Abu Dhabi is set to ban single-use plastic bags from June 1. The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) said the ban was in line with a one – use plastic policy introduced in 2020.
The plan is to gradually reduce the use of single-use plastic products and encourage reuse, officials said. The Environment Agency plans to reduce the use of 16 products, including plastic cups, and ban single-use styrofoam plates and containers by 2024.
At the same time, the Environment Agency said the comprehensive policy was to reduce pollution and promote a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle and to combat climate change. An awareness campaign will be launched across the emirate regarding the new decision.
