Cochin | Two arrested for trying to sell sea cucumber in Kochi Abdul Rahman and KP Nabeel, both from Lakshadweep, were arrested. The accused, who were produced in the Perumbavoor court, were remanded.
The 14 kg sea cucumber was brought from Lakshadweep and tried to be sold online. The accused had advertised online to sell sea cucumbers at Rs 20,000 per kg. Cucumber is a protected marine species under the Wildlife Conservation Act.
Sea cucumber is a sea creature. It gets its name from its resemblance to the vegetable variety Cucumber. Cucumbers eat marine waste and thus cleanse the environment. Therefore, their presence is essential in keeping seawater clean. However, sea cucumbers are endangered due to poaching.
