Bangalore | Controversial Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa has resigned following the suicide of contractor Santosh Patil. Chief Minister Basavaraj visited Bommai’s residence and tendered his resignation. Chief Minister Bommai said he had accepted Ishwarappa’s resignation and would send it to the governor.
Police had registered a case against Ishwarappa for inciting contractor Santosh Patil to commit suicide. But Ishwarappa said he was innocent and that the charges against him were part of a conspiracy.
An allegation has been leveled against him. Whether he comes out of it or not, continuing as a minister will give the impression that he is influencing the investigation. That is why he is resigning. He explained to his party followers that he would come out innocent and would definitely become a minister once again.
Ishwarappa announced his resignation from the ministry on Thursday evening amid political turmoil. Ishwarappa said party workers were saddened and some were even crying. “It’s a litmus test,” he told reporters.
