Former superstar Arata Izumi will coach the Reliance Foundation’s Reliance Foundation’s Young Champs team, which is set to launch today. Young Champs is the only team not to be part of the ISL Club, with eight teams taking part in the Reserve League.
Izumi, who was born in Japan and later became an Indian citizen, has been the youth coach of Young Champs for the past few days. Izumi has since been appointed head coach of the Young Champs team, which now plays Reserve Lee Gill. Izumi, 39, has more than 10 years of experience playing Indian football. The midfielder also wore the Izumi India national team jersey.
Izumi, who played in Japan and Singapore early in her career, arrived in India in 2006 via East Bumgal. He later played for Mahindra United, Pune FC, Mumbai and ATK. Izumi last played for the Kerala Blasters in the 2017-18 season. The player retired from the field in July 2018.
