The management and the unions will hold discussions today to resolve the salary crisis in KSIRTC. The discussion will be chaired by KSRTC CMD Biju Prabhakar. The unions demanded that wages be paid before the fifth day of every month. Today’s at 2 p.m.
The unions had intensified their protest against the non-payment of wages after Vishu and Easter. The strike, including by the CITU, had put the government on the defensive. With this, last month’s salary was distributed.
The Finance Department had sanctioned `30 crore for the payment of salaries. After the Finance Ministry informed that no more amount would be paid, the entire salary was disbursed by taking an overdraft of Rs 45 crore from the bank. KSRTC had found Rs 83 crore for salaries by shifting the expenses for two more days.
Although the pay crisis has been temporarily resolved, it is likely to continue in the coming months. In addition to the CITU, the INTUC, the BMS and the TDF had joined the strike. The unions were ready to end the strike with the full payment of salaries.
